About this resource
A 3½-minute video showing how to pay corporate tax, HST and payroll to the CRA through your bank's business tax payment service. The steps are the same at RBC, TD, BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC and most credit unions.
Guide
The one rule: don't use regular bill payments, and don't add CRA as a payee. Use your bank's business tax payment service (RBC: Tax Filing Service; TD: Tax Payment and Filing; other banks have their own version under "tax" in the business banking menu). It asks which tax and which year, so your payment lands in the right account. Before you start, have your business online banking and your Business Number ready. Our email gives you the rest: which tax, the amount, and the period ending. The four steps: 1. Open the tax service. The first time, your bank asks you to register; you only do this once. 2. Add your payment type, once. Enter your nine-digit Business Number plus the ending for that tax, with no spaces. 3. Click Pay and fill in the period ending, amount and payment date. The period ending is the year the tax belongs to, not the year you pay it. 4. Check everything, click Confirm, and send us a screenshot of the confirmation number. Payment types and account endings: - Corporate tax balance owing: TXBAL, ending RC0001 - Corporate tax instalments: TXINS, ending RC0001 - HST balance owing: GST-B, ending RT0001 (period = last day of your HST period) - HST instalments: GST-P, ending RT0001 - Payroll: EMPTX, ending RP0001 (period = the month your employees were paid) If we file your HST return for you, don't pick GST34, because that one files a return. Alberta companies make one extra payment to Alberta (Provincial tax › Alberta › Corporate Income Tax, code ABCIT) using their Alberta Corporate Account Number. Ontario companies skip this; Ontario tax is already included in the CRA payment. Pay at least three business days before the due date, from the company's bank account. If anything looks off, stop before Confirm and call us.
